I’ve added the following #RETTIE records from ScotlandsPeople to the Sources section:

  • 37 records from the 1855 Valuation Rolls
  • 30 records from the 1865 Valuation Rolls

Some points of interest are:

  1. James RETTIE (son of silversmith Middleton RETTIE) owns several properties in Rettie’s Court in Aberdeen
  2. In 1865 James’ nephew Middleton RETTIE the lawyer is living on Great Stuart Street in Edinburgh
  3. Reverend Adam RETTIE still owns a property in Cuminestown after having been appointed minister for the parish of Evie on Orkney
  4. Brothers George and William RETTIE farm Wester Pettymarcus together on the lands of Kinmundy in Old Deer
  5. Farmer John RETTIE of Parkhouse in Old Deer will die aged 80 in November of 1865
  6. Farmer Charles RETTIE of Hythie in Old Deer is strangely absent from 1865 roll – he will die there aged 77 in 1893
  7. In 1865 Peter RETTIE the cooper is living in Duff Street and has a shed for his business on the waterfront in Macduff
